Timber Alternative Sash Windows Installed in a Victorian Cottage

Custom painted frames and bespoke Georgian Bars to replace peeling, draughty windows.

Our customer was looking for a quote to replace their sash windows, casement windows and rear doors. As shown in the ‘before’ pictures, the windows were showing their age, with peeling paint, paint lines from previous maintenance, water damage and some fungal decay. There were also some inconsistencies with details such as horns and various types of Georgian Bar designs.

To help the customer to decide on the configuration of Georgian Bars and other details, we supplied them with pictures of various bar options (full Georgian grids, single vertical bars, plain glazed etc) edited onto an image of their home so they could really get an idea of how they would look. Using these images as a visual guide they decided on single vertical bars, which brings a uniform and consistent look to the front of the property.

Another important detail which needed to be replicated was the black painted outer frames with the white sliding sashes, and using the Bygone Harmony sash window range, this was easily copied in UPVC with a wood grain finish.

The installation went smoothly, and the customer was very pleased with the result. The ‘after’ pictures really show how closely the timber alternative windows match the originals, as well as refreshing the look of the whole property and really enhancing the street view. As well as the improved aesthetics, the windows hugely improve the energy efficiency of the home, reduce noise from the road and require minimal maintenance when compared to the timber windows they replaced.
